NATURAL
INTELLIGENCE

Paulo is energy in person. He supports companies on a daily basis, but it’s in the “intensive care unit” that he feels most alive. He’s called upon to assist companies and entrepreneurs in critical situations; he advises investors, banks and funds on complex restructurings. Perhaps this fascination with the abyss also explains his interest in criminal law, especially economic and tax matters. With Paulo, it’s never just about the law. He’s interested in cases and clients, but he’s inspired by life and people. He likes to say that a lawyer who only knows the law knows nothing about the law. He also likes to simplify things whenever possible, but he has the MacGyver factor whenever necessary.

Bárbara is a quiet force of nature. She knows that rushing – or rather, haste – is not a good advisor. And she knows that the devil is in the details. That’s why she takes careful steps. Discreet, precise and effective, she is most often the team player who diligently designs the passing lines throughout the entire game, ensuring the ball reaches the goal area, ready to be scored.

Bárbara also knows that, in Family Law, the law is just the frame of a mirror through which the rawness of human condition is reflected. And that’s knowing a lot.

Bruno Martelo

Bruno is a precision weapon. He writes with valour and grace, like a 19th century chronicler, but his writing is reminiscent of a scalpel. He’s not a big talker nor one for pats on the back. That’s why anyone who has a score to settle with the State should just have a seat and surrender trust. In fact, behind this apparent misanthropy is a lawyer with outstanding humanist tradition, someone who, in order to summon the forces of indignation, likes to look injustice in the eye. And preferably alone.

Bruno is all-terrain, capable of combining solidity, hard work and practicality in an unusual manner. For someone who works between Maastricht, Lisbon and Luanda, it couldn’t be any other way. He’s called upon to intervene in commercial and real estate transactions, setting objectives, defining strategy and anticipating risks. He also knows that there are no small tasks in large organisations, which means he can easily spend two hours on a single clause. At the negotiation table – and in life – he has integrity, while always remaining combative.

João Mota da Costa

João is rock-solid. He has worked with us for almost ten years. We like to believe that he has learnt something from our merits, but even more so from our mistakes. He came to us from the inland region of Dão with a character so strong that if that’s not everything, it’s almost everything. He’s a proactive lawyer, but over time he’s become Mr. Gets It All Done. With him, a task isn’t finished until it’s finished.

Sara Palminhas

Sara is a force of nature. Today she’s in Faro, tomorrow she’s in Bragança. She spends entire days at her desk, never taking her eyes off the screen. She does this as if she’s breathing, as if it were natural, as if it were easy. For us it’s a blessing, but it’s also a responsibility. Those who never complain are often the ones who need the most help. And the least we can do is be ready to come to Sara’s aid, if necessary, given that she’s constantly saving us. We’re always there for her. But she’s hard to break. Amazingly, she seems happy.
