The Insolvency and Recovery Congress, organized by the Portuguese Association for Insolvency and Recovery Law (APDIR), took place this Friday, November 11, in Lisbon, under the theme “Insolvency Without Borders.”

“In a world with increasingly fluid borders, where entrepreneurs, commercial companies, assets, and financial flows move across various jurisdictions, the challenge becomes ever more complex for insolvency professionals,” APDIR wrote, ahead of the event. “Portugal is doubly involved in these dynamics, both as a Member State of the European Union, which has yet to fully absorb the latest Directive and is already preparing for the next one, and as a pivotal country in the Lusophone sphere, maintaining privileged commercial relationships with a community of over 260 million people.”

The congress highlighted Insolvency and Recovery, both in Angola and Brazil, as well as the Preventive Restructuring Directive and the EU Directive Proposal (which harmonizes certain aspects of Insolvency Law).

The event opened with a keynote speech by Paulo Valério, a lawyer at VFA, executive director of APDIR, and the congress’s scientific coordinator.

Paulo Valério then went on to be the moderator on one of the panels, focused on Insolvency and Recovery in Brazil. Bruno Magalhães, also a lawyer at VFA, provided commentary on the panel about Insolvency and Recovery in Angola.
